Are you experiencing a last-minute flight cancellation?
If your TAROM flight is cancelled last-minute, it can cause a significant disruption, particularly if you have onward flights or further travel plans. Nonetheless, the EU regulations and TAROM’s flight cancellation policy are in place to protect passengers in such scenarios. This protection has been active for over a decade. Thus, if your TAROM flight is cancelled, the airline is obligated to assist you and find an appropriate resolution.
1. TAROM Flight Cancellation: Last-Minute Flight Cancellation
Are you experiencing a last-minute flight cancellation?
In the event of a cancellation by TAROM, the airline is required to provide you with assistance.
- If the cancellation of your flight results in an extended wait at the airport, you are owed the right to care from TAROM. If the delay amounts to 3 hours, you are entitled to a coupon for a complimentary meal, and if it requires an overnight stay — free hotel accommodation and transfer are provided.
- If you choose not to accept the alternative flight offered by TAROM, you can claim a complete refund from TAROM. This refund can either be transferred directly to your bank account or issued as a TAROM voucher.
- Provided the cancellation is last-minute (i.e., flight cancelled up to 2 weeks before the original departure date), and the cancellation is due to a mistake on TAROM’s part, you can request flight cancellation compensation from TAROM.
In the event of a missed connection owing to a cancellation on your TAROM flight, you might qualify for compensation. Our TAROM missed connection compensation guide provides more details.
Essentially, the guidelines are akin to those for delayed flights. The key is to consider how much later you reach your final destination compared to your original schedule.
This compensation policy applies to all TAROM flights to and from Europe.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
2. What to Do if Your Flight Is Cancelled Last-Minute?
What to do if your TAROM flight is cancelled last-minute?
What steps to take can vary based on your current whereabouts. If you are already en route to the airport, the necessary actions may not be the same as if you are still at your residence.
2.1 If You Are Still at Home or Hotel
In the event that you are still at your place of stay and your flight gets cancelled, it’s advisable to remain there until further notice. Get in touch with TAROM’s customer service to understand how to move forward.
TAROM will provide assistance as indicated before. They will inform you about alternate arrangements – you could possibly be departing on the same day, or maybe the next, depending on flight availability. Don’t forget that you have the option to request a flight with a different airline.
Should the cancellation be a result of unforeseen circumstances, you are eligible to receive care, a free alternative flight to your destination, or a refund if you so choose. If the cancellation is due to the airline’s mistake, you may be entitled to flight cancellation compensation as well.
2.2 If You Are Already at the Airport
It’s a last-minute flight cancellation. You are already at the airport when you find out that your flight is cancelled. It’s important that you avoid proceeding through security checkpoints. A replacement flight will be arranged for you, and this would require you to go through the check-in process again to secure a new boarding pass.
If you have any baggage to check-in, you will need to do that again. If you have already made it past security, it is advisable to return to the landside (public access) area of the airport.
It’s crucial to get in touch with TAROM’s representatives at the airport to gain insights about the subsequent steps to follow. They will offer help, such as proposing an alternate flight to your destination (or a complete refund) and care.

If your flight with TAROM is cancelled, you have the option to choose between a replacement flight to your destination or a TAROM refund for cancellation. In case you prefer a refund, it can be given as a direct transfer to your bank account or as a TAROM voucher. The option you select should be based on your personal preference and travel plans.
The refund from TAROM should reach your account within 7 days.
It’s important to know the difference between the right to compensation and the right to a refund, both of which are separate entitlements under the EU flight compensation law.
